The study was done by GlobalPropertyGuide.com and was quoted by the Romanian news agency Mediafax.  Bucharest apartments ranked 26 amongst the 113 markets analyzed.  The Egyptian capital of Cairo was the cheapest market analyzed (at just 453 euro per square meter).  Monaco was the runaway leader in terms of high price, with space at 36000 euro per square meter.  The study was based on 2008 figures.

In the years following the fall of the Berlin wall, prices in many Eastern European capitals have skyrocketed.  Bucharest has been no exception to this.  However, the likely trend is the prices in the city vary greatly, as opposed it there being a uniform rise in price.
